Literature Review Paper: Writing

Introduction

Along with the added bonus of researching and learning about certain topics, writing papers can also be beneficial for people developing and perfecting their writing skills. The literature review paper assignment was no exception. As stated from the previous post, students were tasked with picking a topic relating to UAS to research and produce a paper about it. Within any industry, knowing how to write research and business papers is beneficial.

Methods

To create the paper, five scholarly and multiple non-scholarly sources were used. The types of sources of required was implemented to ensure that the students use information that is accurate and relevant. After researching the topic, they were instructed in creating a paper that is informing to the reader, to leave out any unnecessary bias for certain topics. They were then given two extra opportunities to turn in the paper for grading and feedback without penalization so that they can send in an improved final draft by the end of the semester.

Discussion

While writing the paper, it was definitely slightly more intensive since it was a topic that was lesser known at a personal level. Regardless, the outcome from the research was fruitful. With my colleague Tyler Lewandowski, we interviewed a professor, Joseph Hupy, for Purdue University. He is very knowledgeable within geospatial data, so we interviewed him for guidance for our paper and how it should be approached. With that, an outline for the paper was generated. Through the outline, it allowed for my colleague and I to visualize the structure of the paper and see which parts would fit best. By creating the outline, it allowed for both us to create a paper with smoother transitions and purpose. The paper we created helped me to focus on the grammar of the sentences created and the accuracy of the information that is being shared, along with fluidity of the paper. Receiving feedback on the paper created was also very helpful. It allowed us to improve the paper and probe what the professor was looking for and how he would like it to appear.

Conclusion

Because of this assignment, it helped a good amount of students to improve their work on academic papers. By receiving feedback from the professor, it helped out to improve and find out what is desired from the writing. Looking back to this assignment, it can be used as reference on how to create a well written and developed paper, as well as what the students are capable of. With that, students should also take away the types of grammar mistakes that were made and how to minimize them with future papers created. Because a whole semester was given to write them, it also gave the students enough time to start them when comfortable and at their own pace.
